What is DigCamp Ampthill?
DigCamp Ampthill is a hands-on archaeological experience taking place at Ampthill Great Park, where families help unearth the remains of King Henry V111’s lost royal castle.
Led by profesional archeologists, DigCamp allows adults and children age 6-11 to:
- Take part in real archaeological excavation
- Learn how finds are recorded and preserved
- Discover what life was like at the Tudor court
- Spend time outdoors in one of Bedfordshire’s most histroric settings
Run by DigVentures, there is also a DigClub event for older children with an age category of 12-16. Taking place on 7th & 14th June, also at Ampthill Great Park.
Why stay near Ampthill Park?
- No long early-morning drives
- More energy for the dig itself
- A calm, comfortable place to unwind afterwards
- The chance to slow down and enjoy time together
Rather than rushing home, you could choose to make this DigCamp part of a weekend away.

Why Families Love Staying With Us
Families who stay with us tell us how much they value having a calm, comfortable place to return to after a full day out. Children love the sense of adventure that comes with staying in a cabin, while parents appreciate proper beds, a hot shower, a fully equipped kitchen and the chance to slow down in the countryside.
Evenings spent around the fire-pit, watching the sky change and talking about what you’ve done during the day, become just as memorable as the day out itself. For many families, it’s the combination of fun days out, outdoor play once you return and relaxed time together that makes the stay special.
The beds and bedding are so comfy, a lovely big shower and even storage space
